In 1939, Austrian mountaineer Heinrich Harrer embarks on an expedition to the Himalayas, leaving his family behind. However, with the onset of World War II, the proud Harrer is captured by Allied forces and becomes a prisoner of war. Demonstrating resilience, he escapes alongside a fellow inmate and journeys to Lhasa, Tibet. There, he encounters the young Dalai Lama, just 14 years old, and their friendship profoundly influences and changes his perspective on life.
